gingembre says: Fighting words from Lee Iacocca in this rant bemoaning the state of the US government and outlining the qualities needed by a true leader. He bluntly examines how the current administration stacks up in terms of leadership and implores us to use his leadership test to screen presidential candidates and choose wisely. Here's a bit more: "My friends tell me to calm down. They say, "Lee, you're eighty-two years old. Leave the rage to the young people." I'd love to—as soon as I can pry them away from their iPods for five seconds and get them to pay attention. I'm going to speak up because it's my patriotic duty. I think people will listen to me. They say I have a reputation as a straight shooter. So I'll tell you how I see it, and it's not pretty, but at least it's real. I'm hoping to strike a nerve in those young folks who say they don't vote because they don't trust politicians to represent their interests. Hey, America, wake up. These guys work for us." Words of wisdom This article SHOULD be required reading. As Per Socratoad: "This article SHOULD be required reading". I'd like to add: for ALLLL Americans, and as well, likely for all Canadians - particularly our so-called "leaders". It's an intelligent, accurate assessment, well-written, easy to read - - and all to true. I'd prefer to refer to it as "Truth Be Told" rather than see it referred to as a "rant", as I have noted it has been. How can you trust an Administration, that must govern according to the wishes of the majority, when in 2000 it was elected with one Supreme Court vote. It only got worse from there. While George Bush has the right connections, he's a bad Actor, and his associates left a paper trail unaware of the wide reaching audience of the internet. The United States was once respected as a Nation by the people of other countries, now many people consider it to be untrustworthy and hypocritical. I have to be careful to separate the American People from the Administration. What is really offensive, While it is not clear that GWB had the Majority is that the rest of the world didn't vote for him at all, but ... Our library just bought the book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of what Lee Iacocca has to say on the subject. Americans certainly haven't cornered the market on lack of leadership. As an American living in Canada I really appreciate the acknowledgment that the Bush administration does not represent the American people. I find it very hurtful when unthinking critics put down "Americans" when they mean the Administration. |
