Yeah --- If this is past, there would be MAJOR retatilation from people. This would divide the country and I gurantee make the draft card burning, draft dodging, etc from the 60's look like nothing. No way will people allow this thing to pass.

This resolution was first introduced by Rangel in January of '03. It was not meant to pass or even to go to the floor for a vote. Instead, it was a way to open a dialogue regarding the fact that our wars are disproportionately fought by our nation's poor and as a bit of political theater whose point was that the neocons and war supporters would be less likely to support a conflict if THEIR sons and daughters might die in its prosecution.

Prior to the '04 Presidential election, the GOP brought Rangel's resolution to the floor for a vote as a way to dispel rumors that a draft was imminent. It failed 402-2 with even Rangel voting again...
