Any human with any objectivity at all, knows that animals grieve, love, rejoice, rage, etc... It is not anthropomorphism to attribute emotions to non-humans, as if humans are not also animals. However, it is not only convenient for many humans to assume the absence in non-humans of the full emotional spectrum (including exquisite sensitivity to pain) but it is speciesism. It is beyond arrogance how we treat non-human people, in the name of homo sapiens'(?!) supposed superior intellect and so-called god-given dominion. Of course, we do it to each other, giving special attention to those lower on our dominance totem pole, those less able to defend themselves.
