I love the contrast - even if I would never consider myself having much of a narcissistic fantasy, in this or any matter - the last sentence really was a - - punch!
A healthy punch.

I think it's because some things are perceived as being better than something else and most people would at some time or other in their life, like to have something that people consider as being the best.

I don't mind spending more provided there's a good reason and I can afford it. I got a KitchenAid mixer with all its accessories even though they were rather expensive, but I've had it for 28 years and it's never broken down or given me any trouble. The mixer, however, with its attachments, does the work of half a dozen appliances and lets me make things at home that I'd have to buy at a supermarket. In making decisions on what to buy, the first question is, "Do I need it?" If the answer isn't an unqualified "yes", then I deal with "Why do I want it?" and go from there to "Can I get along without it?" The low question on the totem pole is, D...

I totally agree. There are some things like you said such as air conditioning and it's a basis by basic thing. I mean, why buy a cheap pair of shoes when spending a little more money will help prevent back problems and things like that.
