Yes they are.

"...open hearts, open minds, fair-minded words" applies to the Pro-Life movement only. It is interesting that the woman who started the whole thing, Norma McCorvey, opened her mind and saw that abortion kills babies.

In this culture, I've concluded that if a person wants to have sex til the cows come home...fine. Deal with the emotional consequences and diseases; however, don't make babies. Sadly that will never happen because the *majority* of people having sex don't care about the next instant; only personal self-gratification of their own desires.

And Notre Dame has besmirched it's reputation and undermined it's theology by bringing Obama to the graduation. While I'm no Catholic, I believe in adhering to your professed values.

The impassioned views of America's opposing camps on abortion are "irreconcilable", Barack Obama conceded today
Sounds divisive. Not unlike the slavery issue our country was plagued with, except I believe the abortion issue is of graver consequence. What will become of our nation?

Efrain, you really think abortion is of graver consequence than slavery? I find that incredibly hard to understand.

I personally find the issue of abortion to be very tricky. I am pro-choice, but i can absolutely understand the position of both sides. I suppose that for me, it comes down to the fact that there are so many different circumstances that lead to pregnancy that i can't see a one-size-fits-all solution. I also can't see having a court decide each case, so i end up feeling that it is a mother's choice to make.

"I find that incredibly hard to understand."

Not sure why you find it hard, about 800 million people don't exist worldwide (not including the children of the people that don't exist) because of it (those are just the registered abortions). Seems fairly easy to understand if not necessarily agree with.

BitDrifter, Not everyone believes that 800 million people don't exist because of abortions. The reason being that people believe differently about when life starts. This is why Obama is correct in saying that peoples differences on this issue are irreconcilable.

Which is worse, being owned, or being dead? Which crime do you think is worse, kidnapping or murder?

The reason being that people believe differently about when life starts.
Why base it on beliefs when this is something that can so easily be settled by science?

Really? I actually don't find that hard to believe in our society.

To come to an understanding of the gravity of abortion, let us examine how it has affected the community most afflicted by these two evils, ie. slavery and abortion.

Even though 14% of African American women are of child rearing age, 36% of all abortions in the US have been performed on them. Black women are 5 times more likely to have an abortion than white women. Since abortion was legalized in 1973, there has been 16 million African American babies aborted. The current Africa...
