The law demands a clear explanation in cases where the minimum is disregarded. Yet council research found only two cases in the past three years in which judges bothered to account for extra lenient sentencing.

I believe Mary K. Letourneau received almost the exact same sentence in the State of Washington. It was only after she violated her probation that she was sentence to seven and a half years... Still "lenient" compared to male offenders.
