Newspaper readership is on the decline and it appears may be totally overcome by the web or other online sources of news and information within 5 years. In one big way, they have brought this situation upon themselves. Instead of becoming more innovative, informative and relevant, they have been merging, cutting back on personnel, closing news bureaus overseas etc. They do not have a chance in competing with immediate, up-to-the-minute news reporting, along with interactive media enhancements. On top of which the ability for readers to offer instant feedback and comments regarding any particular item being reported. I would hate to see the newspaper disappear from the scene as it is such a tradition with many people. But unless they can find a way to compete in a meaningful and engaging manner, I fear they are going to go the way of the dinosaur.

This doesn't surprise me. Even so-called debate shows on TV are nothing but fluff. I think Jon Stewart sums it up pretty nicely in this video:

Jon Stewart on Crossfire.

Yes, the future of newspaper is emerging in a very different manner. Now the media channels are driven by technologies like web, podcasts, RSS, mobile, social media etc. For online publishing, there are some companies like Pressmart http://wwwpressmart.net which help the publisher to distribute their news through new media technology. Pressmart is a new media delivery partner of worldwide newspapers and magazines with above mentioned technologies & 400 yrs of archive digitization experience.
