Well, perhaps Nugent's plea shouldn't come as a surprise.

Nugent is a Northern Michigander like myself. He comes off looking ultra conservative when he doesn't have a guitar in his hand. What really drives him is his love of independence and freedom. He is an environmentalist and believes in self sufficiency. He is also very intelligent. Even though I'm a Democrat, I must admit I have some admiration for the guy.
