joaaron2468 says: Jesus: A name to be scared of? Personally, i think it's bizarre that any of these names were brought up. I don't think a college campus is a religious institution and thus, i think they should stay clear of that. I honestly feel offended when GWB bring out God regardless of the occasion. But that's just me. The religion one uses to deal with grief should be private - to bring up ANY names of Deity in this type of public forum is by default excluding those mourners who don't connect with them. You don't bring a community together with deliberate actions of separation. People, it was a memorial. When you come to the Ceasar's house, there are 2 things that might happen: 1) Either his will is imposed on you, or 2) He'll be gracious enough to allow you, the different one, to express some of your ideas from you point of view. I don't think, anyone at the convocation views this allowance as the absolute collapse of the American "Christian" way of life. Take a breath, and just relax. Oh right, fundamentalists can't relax can they? Just silly. A memorial on public ground, not "Caesar's house." **sigh** Let's be literal for those that don't understand a higher level of abstraction. Public ground in America can be thought of as "belonging" to our government. Our government was est. long ago, by the people, for the people. The people that helped to est. our government, and the general populace at that time, and time henceforth have, for the most part, followed the Christian religion. Commonly held belief, here in America, by most Americans, is that our nation was founded by Christian individuals, following the dictates of the Christian religion. This colloquial belief extends to this very post, where an issue is being created, because our national "standard" (read Christianity) di... The people that established our Gov't were primarily Masons and Deists, who believed that one's religious beliefs should not be questioned or undermined by the majority. They were personally Christian, but did not found this as a Christian nation. Caesar was a dictator, which the founding fathers' beliefs are primarily against. Public ground is NOT automatically Gov't ground. So, would you ask me to "relax" if I were agreeing with you? Point conceded. My studies have uncovered the same information. But I assure you, "general" belief (which usually has nothing to do with truth) is that all the founders were in fact Christian. But, since it's too touchy, I'll drop Ceasar in favor of America. Happy? Oh, I agree completely with the "general" belief (which also happens to be true) that they were primarily Christian. I don't recall if all of them were, but it would have been political suicide if they didn't at least proclaim it publicly. It's not "touchy," just a weak point IMHO. And since America is still a melting pot..... same thoughts. Washington, Adams, Monroe, were not Deists. That was already and historically been debunked. Jefferson was a Deists. For further information please read renown historian with two best selling books "1776" and "John Adams" by: David McCullough. Also if you are a true scholar you will not be scared to read some of his siting that he sites in the bibliography. I will concede that Jefferson was a Deist. There is not doubt about that. If the same happened in 'another country' someone would likely have been shot or a riot would have broken out. The fact that Jesus is not mentioned but other dieties were only tells me the public is 'trying' to be politically correct. Someone has launched a new type of terrorism that is aimed at the US religions. Not happy with fighting about religion in the rest of the world they want to make us do the same- I guess it's working. Soon we will be dividing our country by sects. The fact that Jesus is not mentioned but other dieties were only tells me the public is 'trying' to be politically correct.Agreed. PC has outlasted its welcome, IMHO. And we're already "dividing our country by sects," otherwise this thread wouldn't even exist. The problem is just so easy to solve - if it wasn't for the same rules of the founding fathers. |
