There is now a theory. No-one really has any idea. What is described as a 'flip flop' happens on a geological time scale, So far they have established that they have happened.For all we know they are the result of magnetic forces beyond earth, perhaps beyond the solar system.
Sometimes it is difficult for a scientist to come out with a flat "We don't know" It's surprising how often that is the truth.

I never thought that could ever happen,but 25 miles a year,wow ! having the north pole on the equator, thats crazy! why didn't I hear of this before? I can't imagine seeing the northern lights on the equator !

Who knows what speed is normal? In 20th century the pole moved at an average speed of 10 km per year, lately accelerating to 40 km per year.

Hmmm, i wonder how my GPS device willl adjust for this?

Your GPS is not sensitive to the magnetic pole roaming. As for the geographic pole, it is still in situ.
