Athenian society engaged in man-boy love as a cultural practice, but women were also locked away and kept all but separate from male society. There was precious little interaction with women not of one's own family. In Sparta, young boys and girls exercised naked in front of each other form an early age. Sparta was an enthusiastically nudist culture. Women in Sparta were much freer than in places like Athens or Thebes. They had inheritance, property, and educational rights. Sparta was cons...
