Does it even bear mentioning that this has got to be one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. Someone out there seriously needs to get out more.

Ok, ok. So it's not earth shattering. I guess living in Atlanta all my life I'm a little sick of the Coke oligarchy. People here actually drink Coke like it's a fine wine, comparing the subtle nuances of the different types. It's flavored sugar-water people. Oh, well...

I once shared an office with a guy from Atlanta, and he had a bad case of Coke worship.

Ha! I suppose I should be grateful that because of it's size Atlanta's obsession with the syrupy elixor is somewhat diluted. Did you know that early on Coke actually contained cocaine? Old-timers would go into soda fountains and order a Dope. No wonder it became so popular.

I knew about the cocaine, and it's on Snopes - which says the amount was about 1/400 grain per ounce, meaning you'd have to drink 48 gallons to get just one gram, & several hundred gallons to feel any effects. In the 1800s, cocaine and opiates weren't regulated and were in a lot of patent medicines and other soft drinks, so that wasn't anything special. Doctors' prescriptions used G.O.M. as an abbreviation for morphine - that stood for "God's Own Medicine".

Even though cocaine was outlawed in 1914, Coke didn't completely get rid of it until 1929.

Yeah, I've read this before and there seems to be other accounts that report much higher percentages before 1902. Anyway, a good urban legend needs controversy.
