"Beware of ever aspiring to such great purity that thou refusest to appear to thyself...a sinner."

"...emphasis should not be placed on guilt from sin, but on returning to union, as the horror and hatred of a thing is a form of strong attachment to it."

I find it odd, in the United States, that people who are citizens of a republic have a monarchial theory of the universe.

Thanks, Willhelm. I see better what you meant earlier.

All you needed to say was "total depravity". Yes.

As BNM was trying to point out (I think) that within Christianity and being empowered by the Holy Spirit, humans can produce that which is good, righteous, acceptable, and pleasing to our Creator God and beneficial to mankind. Without that enablement, it's human good at best and at worst self-engrandizement/ego-trip/self-promotion.

It may be helpful to many if you made clear the doctrinal basis of your clips on Christianity. Some clippers may want to explore Calvinism more deeply, some Christians may agree that "Calvinism is perilously close to blasphemy.' Theology associated with Calvinism is worthy of discussion, but I believe that 'Calvinist theology' is not remotely equivalent to Christian theology in general. Thanks, anyway, for making explicit the source of your earlier pronouncement that humanity is utterly depraved.

Calvinist theology does not differ at all from any mainstream Christian doctrine on the essentials. It actually may be more helpful if you point out that which you suggest is perilously close to blasphemy. Calvinst, or "reformed" theology is built entirely on biblical teaching. Good sources to learn more would be:

http://www.bible.org/index.php?scid=1

http://www.spurgeon.org/mainpage.htm

And most comprehensive of all...

And ANY of these books would be vastly enlightening.
