It is a dystopia where the undergrounders have become extensions of the 'machine', where every uniform individual in their hexagonal cell has thousands of 'friends' via the electronic communication, but where the idea of actual human face to face interaction is totally gone. Only the unaffected losers outside the machine retain humanity, only in them is there hope.

I just noticed something really strange. Your clip is about a short story written 1909 about the future, living underground because living above ground is impossible. Now here is the strange part. the next clip under yours is about an underground city beneath Beijing. It's a clip from merrie called "An Underground City Beneath Beijing, Why!".
