This is a pretty stupid statement. We don't have socialized medicine, even if there wasn't a war, we wouldn't cover everybody. I'll take quality over quantity any time. That is why spinmonkey is happy-the ability to take quality healthcare over nothing. My clients die on a regular basis from lack of or improper care. Hell, my dad is dead at 60 from years of untreated diabetes. But as long as some people do okay. The US can definitely boast the most selfish people on Earth. And being 37th in health care in the world is QUALITY? I live in a country with public health care. In the late 80s I had chemotheraphy and was sick for a whole year. If I had lived in the US, most likely you wouldn't be reading this now. In my book people who use language such as "socialized medicine" are scumbags. Yup, Spinmonkey, the WHO does rate the USA as 37th in the world's nations for health care quality. And America spends double per person what other nations pay. Twice the cost, 37th best, quite a deal, eh? And remember, socialism is about government ownership of the means of production. Single payer healthcare does not even remotely suggest government ownership of health care - presumably, we'd get care the same places we get it now (at least, those of us privileged enough to get it). Socialized medicine is a scarlet letter label designed by politicians to make it look dirty before it's really examined. I urge you not to use it, because it rather badly misrepresents the case.
