Unitarian Universalism is just starting to fully explore white privilege. As a denomination that is 97% white but longing to be more racially diverse, we are beginning to see that part of the reason we have such a small number of people of color is that we don't actually talk to our religiously liberal black brothers and sisters may actually need from multi-cultural religious home. Coming back from this years national General Assembly I believe that we are beginning to do the soul work needed to fully embrace the other (be they be another color or from a different economic or educational status). iulaw - sounds like an important dialog has begun; way to go!
How ironic it is that with racism just when we get a few symbols that suggest things aren't as bad as they used to be, we realize we haven't even scratched the surface yet. The illegal stuff is not what it was, but our society is vastly dysfunctional in taking it as "normal" that white people run stuff and non-white people don't.
I think the great missionary venture that is in front of white people who want change is to plead with their white brethren to look deeply at how ingrained the inequity in our culture is, and how many glass ceilings are put on people over issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
