They had their first glimmer of fame when they picketed at the funeral of Mathew Shepard. They have a countdown clock on their site for how many days Mathew has been in Hell. They are 90% family members, the Phelps, all lawyers and very sue happy. Papa Phelps is getting old and lost his lic to be a lawyer, but Shirley Phelps his daughter is still a lawyer. They make their money off frivolous law suites. They are whacked out Calvinists who believe that its predestined at birth if your going to heaven or hell. They believe all of America is going to hell except them. They have websites like "Godhatesamerica and Godhatesfags. I did an ... His poor family. I De-published the article, because the best way to counter them is to ignore them. The Patriot Guard Riders provide a nonviolent, volunteer buffer between the protesters and mourners. Even they who grew to large numbers in a year took all references to the Phelps and their so called church off their site to not give them the time of day. I feel sorry for Topeka KS where they have their church, That City must endure these freaks on a daily basis. The call themselves 5 pointed Calvinists. The Patriot Riders will come or offer, I highly suggest the family take it. When the press was not doing their job I used to have to call families on their list to tell them this might occur, they often post multiple protests and show at one or two. You can bet they will show here, due to the press they are already getting... ahhh. even by me now....But when warned people would be ready and often the Phelps are tossed out of towns like rag dolls. This shows how much damage religion CAN do. Just be glad he is not a senator or worse. Names like Hitler come to mind. Calvinism has always been a path to hatred in my perception. I hate these miserable people. I can hardly believe this. Oh what, oh what is this world coming to? I just can't believe christianity can preach so much hate... Each time something like this happens, I despair even more. I try not to resent "good" christians, but reading stuff like this makes me soooo furious! So,they should get their targets straight. The family has a RIGHT to peace and privacy at this moment.The press has blown this way out of proportion just to sell ads.It's sad. Good point, although i support those who shield the families from their signs etc. with everything from sheets, to people dressed as angels as they did at the Mathew Shepperd funeral, spreading their wings around the entire Phelps group, making them invisible. Or the motorcycles who surround them and rev their engines each time they open their mouths, silencing them but never even talking to them. The press have a HUGE roll in their presence and continued activity. Every time they hit the news, they ramp up more protests. The news that reports on them should be ashamed. |
