Enter <KBD>about:config</KBD> in the Location Bar to display the list of user preferences.

Open the context menu of any of these preferences.

From the <STRONG>New</STRONG> submenu, select the type of preference you wish to create. Choose <STRONG>String</STRONG> if its value will be textual, <STRONG>Integer</STRONG> if it will be a number, or <STRONG>Boolean</STRONG> if it will be either <KBD>true</KBD> or <KBD>false</KBD>.

Enter the name of the preference in the dialogue that follows. Be careful to get it right.
