egoldstein says: I clipped this from a great article that discusses the brain chemistry involved in the food industry's production of food products we simply can't resist - no matter how bad they are for us or how fat they make us. The more i've begun to pay attention to this issue, the more similarities i see between the food and tobacco industries. Peanut dark chocolate M&Ms. Lookout! Trouble ahead. Chips - deadly. POPCORN AND BUTTER SALT TOO< YUM BE RIGHT BACK>>> Lindor Truffles (fortunately too expensive to buy a whole lot). I've never ever had that problem. I don't like cake, cookies, chocolate etc and things with sugar in are just waaaay too sweet for me. It almost "hurts" my tastebuds to eat stuff like that. In processed foods, I seem to be able to taste the additives too much, it all just tastes like chemicals to me. I usually struggle to MAINTAIN weight, coz I only like fruits, veggies, nuts etc. I guess my reward system is out of whack, coz to me food and eating doesn't give me a "fix" or a "high". I get my highs in other ways. On a side note, my Mum always had a cow about my lack of passion for sugar when I was a kid. I HATE ice cream too and when it was my birthday I didn't want ANY cake or sweet stuff at all. All I wanted was green peas, in the pod preferabl,y or corn on the cob. I guess that's why I never had a real birthday party. Or that wonderful alternative, deep-fried Snickers. A hard cycle to break if you have diabetes. The agony of walking past a bakery is worse than anything George and the boys could think up. Not surprising,It;s all about the money. But fortunatly there are some people getting the word out about staying healthy or getting healthy that aren;t after your money. I have cravings for sweets and other foods but I've never had a problem saying I've had enough. I have to eat my M&M's by colors or else they will all be gone in a instant! Sometimes I get bad munchies attacks. Hmmm. |
