Which part? This part?

Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.

Do you have any idea, who that "God" that Thomas Paine referred to?
It's definitely not the Christian God. Thomas Paine was a "Deist".

FYI, I've just clipped one of his most well-known articles here:

A Diest ?!?! Should we tell him he's wrong now or later? When is his "brilliant thinker" card revolked for subscribing to such superstition?

All I know... is that I'm with you invictus. He's wrong, and I don't care for his lemming beliefs.

We intellectuals must hold fast in the face of eroding sensibilities and cries of "hypocrisy!"

*sigh* When I first came to the site I thought invictus was an intelligent member of the community. Now, after only a week, I've learned he has his own agenda and most of his posts are centered on bashing Christians and religion in general.

I've learned from experience that communicating with a closed mind of this level is useless.

You see, just like the religions you seem to despise, pushing your opinions too hard causes your listening audience to move on.

Score losing another open ear.

As I have already stated earlier, to believe in a "Supreme Being" is one thing, to submit to a religion like Christianity and to believe in a book like Bible, taking its contents literally, is another thing. I respect anybody who says he believes in a God or Goddess and it's almost impossible to prove or disprove such a belief. For me, the distinction between "belief" and "religion"; between the existence of a "Supreme Being" and believing literally a 2000 years old forgery, is very clear.

And more important, Thomas Paine is ...

I can't believe that. This is a very interesting post about Thomas Paine, and what are you people arguing about ? Supposed christian-bashing ? Where is it ? What it is about ? Who is a closed mind here ?

It feels like it's more Invictus-bashing these days...

Perhaps if I were to post articles that predominantly poked fun at Atheists, Libertarians and the Turks or French there would be some backlash for that too?

Anyone that doesn't get offended by a persistant barrage of this kind of thing doesn't believe very strongly in what/who they are to begin with.

I guess if it was funny, I would laugh. I don't care, I don't want you or anyone else to become an atheist, and I totally accept your right to question atheism. Only religious people can't laugh about themselves (wel actually some of them can)

That's wrong. How could you be offended by other people opinion ?
And how do you define "persistent barrage" ? Like what we Atheist have to suffer every day of our lifes in this religious world when we say we are atheists ?

Try it. Find a funny site about atheism. I'll gladly comment it.
