Einstein in a letter to Max Born, during Stalin's lifetime (and therefore before Khrushchev's denunciation of him):

"There are increasing signs that the Russian trials are not faked, but that there is a plot among those who look on Stalin as a stupid reactionary who has betrayed the ideas of the revolution. Though we find it difficult to imagine such a thing, those who know Russia best are all more or less of the same opinion. I was firmly convinced to begin with that it was a case of a dictator's despotic acts, based on lies and deceptions, but this was a delusion."

From "The Born-Einstein Letters" (1971)

Einstein was a genius as a physicist, but he was duped just like many others on the...

Yes, look at the high ratio of scientists and related eclectic genius (genii?) who are poor housekeepers and very sloppy. Martha Stewarts they're not.

Sounds kind of strange to me for Einstein to use such a strong word as "hate".

Who said one person can not change the world. There have been many good minds gone to waste over money. Are we adults? Can we come together as humans to chage the world? Is it not our problem we throw away what we really wanted for Christmas last year. Can we live without money? It could be just like Star Trek. Are we smarter than it appears? Before we were born we breathed liquid oxygen.

"This topic brings me to that worst outcrop of herd life, the military system, which I abhor."

Although I am a fan of AI, I find that his outlook on the military shows that he truly was an isolationist. A man who spends considerable time alone, away from human contact, and the majority of his time contemplating the universe soon loses contact with reality. As a retired soldier, I may be a bit biased, but I was proud, as well as frightened, for my son when he also served, and I hurt for every life lost in conflicts which we find ourselves embroiled. However, I have also seen the benefits of freedom in this country purchased with the blood and bravery of previouse generations. I have also seen the severe poverty and hopelessness in those countries without our hard earned freedom. Altho...

I have the full version of this essay in book form somewhere. It is kind of a mixed bag--profound insights interspersed with naivite and left-wing boilerplate. But that's about what you should expect from someone writing outside their field of expertise. As in the case of Carl Sagan, who was extremely knowledgeable about history as it relates to science, but whose thoughts on other political/historical topics was spotty.
