This article really does a good job to put things in perspective. As a white person who doesn't like or listen to Imus, him getting fired for his poor comments seems to be taking the direction of the situation to a very hypocritical level.

Read the entire article, as it's probably the deepest and most well thought out one I've read about this topic.

I've been embarrassed by both these two for years, typically whenever they open their mouths. And yes, I'm black.

I also think Imus SHOULD HAVE been fired because he's open to all ears representing a public media interest, (unlike, say, a subscription station where the audience pays specifically to hear Howard Stern's views). Remember why he got the boot the last time?

Double standard? Damn right!

Imus represents his employer! Stern represents himself. You can shout on top of your own rooftop anything you want. THAT'S freedom of speech. And you can do so publicly. It's freedom of speech.
