This is a great compass for inland navigation. The level is really handy for improving accuracy when you are holding it in your hand, and the clinometer is a life saver, literally, when it comes to calculating avalanche risk, as well as how tough the climb ahead is going to be!

Also, they have the cheat sheet useful if you don't like solving trig problems in your head.

122 dollars? You're kidding, right? Mine is a tad more bulky but I saved about 90 dollars.

Yeah, their website is a little high. I think REI and other out door gear places tend to sell it for about $70 to $90, but then there are almost perpetual sales at these kind of stores these days.

In this case I was able to "pro-deal" this compas, meaning that Brunton gave me more than half off because I'm an outdoor professional.

It is a sweet compass, and I recommend it to anyone. However, I don't recommend paying full price unless you are hardcore for wilderness navigation and orienteering.

Oh, and I just asked a friend about that. He says Brunton's website is probably so expensive because they don't want to undersell their retailers. Thus everything is more expensive when you buy directly to encourage you to buy from your local outdoor equipment outfitter.
