Most news organizations report the more popular U.S. Department of Labor: Bureau of Labor Statistics--Civilian Unemployment Rate. 84.4% are still working. When a person's benefits expire (or they just give up), the government drops them from the "official" unemployment count. This does not, however, eliminate the reality of the fact that these people are still jobless. It just makes the statistics look better. |
