As the case of athlete Caster Semenva (the world-class runner from South Africa) demonstrates, making a final determination on gender is not always possible, even from chromosomes. Think of the complexity this suggests about sexual preference, and the "not natural" argument some employ against homosexuality.

Gender is often considered too as culturally determined so for those in the general population who evidence the spectra of biological attributes outlined in the article, and as this crosscuts cultural factors, gender identity and personal identity are of central concern to individuals. Since the combination of biology and culture applies to the whole population one may consider it odd that so many people exhibit (display) gender identities framed by extremely tight boundaries. It's particularly peculiar, for instance, how many "men's men" exhibit (display) such intense masculinity. I wonder why that is.

Good comment, as always - I hadn't even thought of the fact that atop all these biological possibilities lies the pull of culture. It also strikes me that the psychological ramifications of this "spectrum" must be wide-ranging, indeed, also.

I am sure that the doctor had no trouble filling out the birth certificate, but this is being spun like a new discovery of science. Here is a birth certificate worth looking at.

Considering that birth certificates determine gender only by the appearance of external sexual organs, there has probably been a lot of trouble filling out birth certificates.

And yes, as the human genome is studied, we learn new things in science.

Yet everything in your clip is not about gender but about SEX.

How do you figure that?

[Caster Semenva] may have a bigger-than-average clitoris. High levels of androgens can do all that
Guess deductive premises no longer provide a guarantee of the truth of the conclusion.
