So why do some of Sotomayor's nastiest adversaries imagine that the public will accept these false characterizations of her intelligence and credentials? Perhaps that instinct follows from the right's own sad experiences with Republican affirmative action -- most notably in the matter of Justice Thomas, who embodied all of the problems that conservatives perceived in the pursuit of ethnic diversity. When the wingnuts attack Sotomayor with inaccurate stereotypes, they're projecting onto her the shortcomings of their own beloved Clarence.

Not Thomas!! That's for sure. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder and concerning a particular world-view. Calling names doesn't change anyone's opinions She has expressed her opinions as any American should...but those who oppose those opinions, so far, are free to do so. It's called debate. Selected..probably so. Qualified? probably not.

"excellent choice"....if you judge superficially or close your eyes and do not look at her view of the Constitution, or personal bias, or her own racist and sexist remarks. Her personality is arrogant and brash as well.

Judges are to be absolutely objective and impartial (not empathetic to some over others). Justice wears a blindfold for a reason.

The truth is there are many more qualified, but she was tapped because a) she is Latina and b) her view of the 2nd amendment, c) Obama says her view of the Constitution is consistent with his (not literal, but "progressive").

Truth be told, [i]she used her minority status to get into Princeton and Yale (how dare we say so)...not her ...

You never read a Thomas opinion, have you Jafla?

I have (is what Law Students do), the few that he gives, and they are woefully written, and utter nonsense from a legal point of view. I would like to see some of Sotomayor's decisions and see what is what.

Blueridge, I won't dignify your persecution complex with an answer.

I'm glad you dignified my response with an answer. :~)

What is what? Yes, that is good.
