nohobot says: This is infuriatingly stupid. More denialist B.S. How sad for the people. I love how the article conveniently lists all the basic tactics of various science-denial groups so you can conveniently see how to refute them. 1. The scientific theory or finding they wish to deny "is backed by an orthodoxy, or conspiracy." Ad hominem argument. The other side's motives don't by themselves prove that their contention is wrong. 2. "that science is based on faith, rather than evidence." This claim only holds water with people who have never had a science class. Flat-out falsehood. Science is the only field of human endeavor that insists that its findings be continuously tested against reality. 3. "and that their ideas are on the verge of acceptance." This one is almost alw... Last night's news, "Sexually transmitted diseases are the single biggest killers of South Africans" (meaning, primarily HIV/AIDS). And yet, the Mbeki band plays on, and on, and on. He's just fired the Deputy Health Minister because she believed HIV causes AIDS. This is our intelligent leader, a man who many strongly suspect wants to be the life-long president of South Africa - just another African tyrant, like his pal Mugabe of Zimbabwe. As one black author put it more blacks are dying under black rule than ever died under the white apartheid regime, and it's all through indifference and utter stubborn willful stupidity. There is a bunch of AIDS denialists on the internet, they go around and try to convince sick AIDS patients to stop their medications (look up "Paul King AIDS dissident" on Google for an example of these fanatics). http://www.AIDSchat.org is where I hang out with other HIV positive people, come join if you are POZ too. |
