A feature-rich citation manager built on top of Mozilla. Requires FF 2.0 to run. Mainly aimed at heavy users of online bibliographic databases. Getting a lot of hype. I'd like to try it, but I'm not interested in disabling all my FF 1.5.0.7 extensions.

Interesting. I use a combination of citeulike.org and Google Notepad to collect all of the interesting academic sources I come across on the web.

Does the CiteULike bookmarklet still work with Amazon.com for you? It doesn't for me. I've ended up switching to LibraryThing for books for that reason.

Well, for books I use a combination of Endnote and the Amazon.com wishlist. But you're right, the CUL bookmarklet doesn't work for Amazon for me either. The CUL maintainer was informed of this last month; we'll see if he can create a solution.

Yeah, I was really liking using CiteULike for books because it allowed me to make taggable, shareable lists (like I could tag all the books and articles for a course or a project with a unique tag, and then send someone the URL for that tag). Thanks for that link, I hadn't been able to figure out how to get access to the discussion list archives.

I've been waiting for this to go public and I was all set to download it yesterday, but then stopped when I saw that it's only compatible with Firefox 2.0.

Have either of you tried this yet? I went to a website for an academic journal published by Blackwell and was disappointed by how little of the citation information it could process, compared to CiteULike.

(CiteULike still cannot process Amazon.com entries however)

As of today, CiteULike is working with Amazon URLs again, at least some of them (I tested it with this one). I hope it keeps working.

Thanks for the update enbar. That was an interesting test case.

Dammit, I was wrong! It only works with some Amazon URLs. How peculiar.

I just tested Zotero and CiteULike with an abstract from a Sage Publications website. Once again, CiteULike was able to process the citation information, Zotero could not.

ingenta connect: CiteULike can handle, Zotero can't.

I just tried adding a citation to a book from Amazon to Zotero ... apparently Zotero can't deal with Amazon URLs any better than CiteULike.

CiteULike seems to work with Amazon URLs of the form:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ + ISBN

So, go for this one or CiteULike (I'm not familiar with this at all).

Well, as of November 2nd I would have to say that CiteULike is much better than Zotero.

I like CuL (user: kmcolo) but have found the interface does not promote my actually using it. I think CuL is much better at capturing citation information but is inconsistent enough for me not to reliy it. The GUI of Zotero is hands down better (ease of use, presentation, organizational logic) and with a little work will win me over.

It kind of depends on what you want to do with it. Zotero is a lot more flexible in terms of adding notes and so forth. But CiteULike is good if you need to track very precise citation information from a lot of non-Web sources. It supports EndNote and BibTeX exporting, I don't know if Zotero does (and I don't use that feature anyhow).

Today I was able to add books from Amazon to Zotero.

Also, I think I think figured out a workaround to add books from Amazon to CUL. Add the book to your wishlist. From your wishlist, click on the book. Then post to CUL. I tried this with three books and it worked.

Neither CUL nor Zotero can capture citation information from MetaPress (which handles Routledge journals)and Cambridge Journals Online.

I'm not getting on well with CUL at all. It doen't capture the information from Sage Publications online and that's a site I use a lot.

I could have sworn I got CUL to extract the citation information from Sage earlier this month, but now it doesn't work for me either. Either I'm crazy or Sage changed their formatting.

Perhaps. I'm vexed for I was liking it.

Beware of the new version of Zotero (1.0.0b3.r1). On my machine it was interfering with my ability to save clipmarks (the "Save Clip" window would only open half-way) and one could not access the "Make this clip public" check box nor the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons.

A compelling case for an uninstall.

I'm trying out Zotero. I wanted to use it to keep my book lists, short stories, and other educational stuff in it. My "Save Clip" window has to be extended with mouse. Wondered what was causing that. Now, I don't know whether to give up Zotero or just get used to extending the window.....sheesh.
