The term 'semitism' is of European origin in the 18th century as a description of a linguistically connected people. I am confident that most people understand the term 'antisemite' to refer to a primitive antagonism to a race of people. (Though there are Jews and Arabs alike who are 'antisemites' insofar tas they object to the branding of their history and culture into a linguistic monolith, semitism.
I may be in a fool's paradise, but I believe that over many years I have assimilated enough of Jewsish history from a variety of sources and perspectives to unhitch ideology whether benevolent of malignant.
