I loved the angry voice, the reality of rap back in the late 80s. Though sometimes controversial, groups like Public Enemy were raw in a time of ever more highly managed and focus grouped pop music and were a breath of fresh air. I haven't listened to rap in over ten years. But maybe that's just because I'm a middle aged white guy...

The type of music a person listens to reflects that persons lifestyle.

True, True but don't any of you think the thug life style is a bit efeminate? What REAL man wares super odd color coordinated styles, diamonds and gold more uglier than my Grandma's engagement ring! This is the same brother who spent 5 Gs on grills and don't respect a damn thing! Also would go to a party every day and not get bored. The problem with Black America is not just the idolism of the thug but with how we are protraying ourselves on television and how our people and our culture is exploiting all that is NOT good GUNS, SEX and HATE etc. along with those that encourage and sell it. Our people are being direspected, why well because some of us are disrespecting what BLACK is! Black ...

The 'thug culture' is just that...thuggery. It's not hip, or admirable, or inspiring...it's just a bunch of angry people spouting off.

"Black America"...whatever that is....will become more prosperous and respecting of itself when it stops being crude, irresponsible, demeaning of everyone, and subservient to the popular victimization of it's spokesmen.
You're Americans. And you live in the best place for opportunity. Take advantage of *that*!!!

I know of no better way to keep rap alive than your 2 cents.

In my comment above where I say rap, I mean thug culture. The two are not the same, my apologies.

Jatfla, I don't want you to take my comment as trying to keep you from taking part in the conversation. That is, if there is a conversation to be had.
