Premda neupitno stabilni kada su u pitanju politika i državni odnosi, ništa nije moglo pripremiti kraljevsku obitelj na događaje oko Dianine smrti. Kraljičina jedina briga u tom trenu su unuci, dok Dianu, koja nakon rastave od Charlesa više nije dijelom kraljevske obitelji, ne smatra njihovom brigom. Tako međutim ne misli i Britanski narod koji ne prestaje odavati počast voljenoj princezi ispred Buckingamske palače i koji postaje sve revoltiraniji šutnjom i indiferencijom kraljevske obitelji spram Dianine smrti.
