I went to school with a girl named Fanny (they were foreigners). Unlike the USA where the word 'fanny' denotes the backside/derriere/bottom, in South Africa it's another term for the vagina. And so, poor Fanny had a really rough time of it at school.

I think my name is very pretty but I've received a couple of rude or ignorant comments because of it. I was told once that It was thought I'd been named after Tanya Tucker. She's much younger than me. Another time I was told that it was such a pretty name that the person had expected me to be much younger than I was. I was named for a Russian ballerina.
