arifsali says: Reza Aslan Author, “No god but God” And after you say this, and say it again, and say it again, they will still answer with, "But where are the moderate Muslim leaders?" We are Zombies. It's too bad his visit isn't being covered like the Pope's visit. He sounds like a very decent person and he practices Islam the way it should be. He doesn't employ the gimmicks required to grab attention so the media see no money in covering his visit. He doesn't dress in robes, ride around in a special car or have that 'GodLike' look. He wears a tophat instead of a beanie with a secret propeller. He actually looks upbeat and able and isn't defending pedophiles. We should sue the media for being biased. He also doesn't have the ability to sway American elections. The GOP needs conservative catholics to vote for them this fall, something that McCain fails to grasp by joining hands with Hagee. to masbury : What`s the moderate muslim in your mind "moderate" is probably not a very good word, and your question is a good one. I'd be glad for your help in refining my answer. I think I mean that vast throng of Muslims who do not, for instance, hold extreme positions of inequality toward women, or extreme views of the validity of violence toward non-combatants. How's that? I do not care for either of them (do not follow "spiritual leaders"), but perhaps this is exactly why the Pope scheduled his visit at this particular time! "Overshadow" is the hint, and "timing is everything". Thanks for the clip, mainstream media is failing us on this stoy. Some relevant news from his visit: Meeting with Georgia governor Sonny Perdue - Photographs The Peterson Lecture to the Annual Meeting of the International Baccalaureate Aga Khan Urges Educators to Embrace Pluralism and Diversity in Teaching Meeting with Illinois governor and mayor [url=http://ismailimail.wordpress.com/2008/04/15/his-highness-the-aga-khan-meets-with-californ... arfsali, you didn't put this in context. First, the man's visiting due to his birthday, and his visit is to his supporters in the US, not the US government. You're right - considering the amount of good this man has done - he certainly deserves a lot more coverage and he's precisely the kind of a person that all Muslims should follow. We'd have a lot fewer problems in this world if that was the case. @skwirlinator - let's be fair to the Pope, who clearly condemned the pedophiliacs a number of times during this visit. Of course it's his deeds that'll eventually tell the story, not condemnations... only time will tell. This Aga Khan gentleman is something else though and shame on the media for not bringing his story to the masses... there's a remarkable story to tell. you didn't put this in context. First, the man's visiting due to his birthday, and his visit is to his supporters in the US, not the US government. As one of his supporters, I can tell you that you're right and wrong at the same time. How? First, he almost always visit his followers after he has invitation from host governments, this is mostly due to the fact that his institutions (http://www.akdn.org) has partnerships with public/private institutions in various countries. In this particular example, his visits to four states in US had strategic partnership events pre-arranged, along with his meeting with his followers. You may have noticed that he was accorded state recept... I stand corrected, just mentioned what I heard from a friend, who is also a follower. Sorry for being somewhat incorrect. I do admire people like him, but don't follow as closely as his followers... glad to hear you're one of them. |
