debbyski says: "The idea of allowing drunk, smelly or snoring people to stretch out in the pews offended some churchgoers, who found it disrespectful. But that didn't stop Vitale. The protest has no visible effect on the military's activities at the fort, but Vitale says results are not the point. "Effectiveness is not what we're after," he says. "We are doing what's right before God. That's what we are called to do, and what happens happens." Cool Clip Debski! I had never heard of this guy. He is my new hero. That puts you 2nd on the list now. I'm with him all the way until "Effectiveness is not what we're after,". But hey maybe that's picky. Good on him. Walking the walk not just talking the talk. @Googleit, What a sweet thing to say, but I don't even belong on a list with someone like him. In our priest's homily last Sunday he spoke about having a moral conscience and not only how hard that can be, but how much people will hate you for it. I agreed with him when he said we must demand more from our legal representatives or our silence will imply consent. I also agreed with him that Jesus was a voice of moral conscience and was crucified for it. I think it takes an exceptional person to be as brave as Father Vitale. How much easier it is to sit in our homes and be comfortable as long as "we get ours", and how difficult it must be to be an activist. But people like him force social change--eventually. It is once again good to be reminded that God's love is not based on social, economic, or political status. To be hated for having a moral conscience and for caring about persons rather than profit is definitely not a glorious path. Thanks for this clip, debbyski. |
