This is one of the better put together games, but I have to admit that it's extremely hard, and the penalites for losing a campaign are large (as in, go back to the beginning and build up your whole army again.)

It's worth a try, especially if you like turn based strategy games.

Ak - that should have been "one of the better put together open source games that I've played on linux". It's also available for winows.

I should also note that there are now tons of new "quests," some of which I have found to be more enjoyable than the starter quests.
