But here's the thing--the PEOPLE of Wasilla stood up to her and the Librarian did too and Palin eventually had to back down...Which is what we gotta do with the Rethuglicans.

OMG! To Kill A Mockingbird? The Grapes Of Wrath? The Color Purple? Talk about censorship. BRAVO to the PEOPLE of Wasilla!

Sarah Palin is a very narrow-minded and therefore very dangerous person.

Unbelievable!

It's just AMAZING to me how this election circus gets crazier all the time--Now this Palin clown from central casting...yeah she's dangerous (she doesn't scare me, I'm just flabbergasted) but also a ridiculous figure to me...I mean, really, McCain IS insane, incredibly demented.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
War is Hell, even the Great War. Certainly something that Republicans don't want young people to learn, or even think about.

The Color Purple by Alice Walker
You mean their are black people in there!

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
A tale of white poverty, displacement, hate our fellow man and what happens when a Republican adminsitration is allowed to go to far on the economic front (the Great Depression)

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
What happens when a Republican administration is allowed to "win" the Culture Wars helped by women like Palin.

Why would she want to ban a dictionary? What did she do to compile the list; write book titles on slips of paper then pull them out of a hat? The woman is nuts.

And a modern Bible (Not the King James version, I reckon)...Also one about Teenagers bodies...Well we wouldn't want those teens to understand their own bodies, would we? They might learn how to avoid pregnancy...hahahahahahaha! I laugh at Sarah--NOT her poor daughter.

You know, I had my doubts about this but a general search for Palin on snopes turned up this:

I love these websites that have morons talking bull. If you look at the auther of this piece of nonfact. He is a Jim Lingren. To the right column you will see contact. His name is a link. Click it and see where you go.

Nevertheless, she did try, whether this list is real or not--it's probably some right-wing list that someone passed on as a hoax.
9-7-2008 10:23 PM
DaveMuckey
Nope, sorry. This is a list of books banned at any time or place in the US. There is no Palin-specific list that I can find.

That said, that this idea would be entertained by any elected official in the US is good enough to disqualify them from holding any office of public trust.

Anyone who though this was true is beneath the lowest of intellect.
9-7-2008 11:43 PM
BobbyRutan
The list is a hoax but it still remains that Pit Bull Palin contacted the library to find out how she could go about banning books. News reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Anyone who would even consider the option of banning books merely to appease some local voters has no business being in any executive office in the United States. This ain't Russia folks.
9-8-2008 5:11 AM
papananook
Thanks for gettin' all that sorted out, everyone--except you, Kenstipe--anyone who wants books banned (Palin)is the intellectual midget here, that's the point, list hoax or not. But you are in love with her, right, Ken? Fools and tools go for the cover and don't READ the book!
9-8-2008 3:38 PM

I'm certainly interested in which books she was interested in banning.

What kind of books have you read, papananook? Can you recommend a good book to me?
9-8-2008 10:03 PM
BobbyRutan
That's an idiotic remark willhelm. Who cares what books papanook has read.

What we are concerned about is that John McBush, hardly vetted a person he selected to be a heart beat away from the presidency showing tremendous lack of character and judgment.

No one, repeat no one, who would even start down the path of banning books deserves to be an executive in the United States of America.

"The list has nothing to do with Palin; it is one that has been circulating for years, with exactly the same books and in exactly the same order. It is a list of important or great books that have been banned from libraries somewhere at some time.

After being up for most of the day, the Obama campaign page spreading the phony list has now been deleted."

The left is looking more and more weak and pathetic. But, it's all good because polls show that the more they launch these baseless attacks, the higher McCain and Palin rise in the polls. LOON POP !

The list includes the first four Harry Potter books, none of which had been published at the time of the Palin-Emmons conversations. The first wasn't published until 1998. In fact, the list is a simple cut-and-paste job, snatched (complete with typos and the occasional incorrect title) from the Florida Institute of Technology library Web page, which presents the list as “Books banned at one time or another in the United States.”

aww - those horrible fact thingys
9-9-2008 8:42 PM
papananook
Yeah, yeah we all know by now that this isn't Palin's list--BUT the fact that she wanted to ban books belies her fascist tendencies. Luckily, her librarian was feisty enough to oppose her.Book banning is mindless intellectual thuggery but it doesn't surprise me one bit.

I am really amazed that the list of typical conservatives here are comfortable with the fact that Pit Bull Palin WANTED to have some books banned even if we don't know exactly which ones they were, and THAT she tried to abuse the power of her office to do something entirely UNAMERICAN.

Bunch of BS, can you people come up with something that actually occurred? Are you so pathetically out of ammunition that you invent fiction and salivate over your own inventions?

Bobby, you don't know that she did, it's an allegation that has no evidence, except for that fictitious list you're so eager to endorse. debbyski, does the fact that this is fiction not bother you? are you so blatantly blind with your ideology that you see nothing wrong with inventing something based on nothing and then running with it like it's something? For Bobby - that's typical of him, but I thought you'd be at least slightly more into facts than that.

Shakespeare once wrote something like this about such baseless sentiments:
"it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing"
9-10-2008 2:37 PM

It disturbs me that she asked about it RS.
9-10-2008 4:34 PM
RecordSage
It's hear-say debbyski, nothing more. Any blatherer can say that someone asked for something... anything... the allegation on the table with nothing to back it up is meaningless. I'm all for pushing for people & ideology you support, nothing wrong with that, and pointing out the deficiencies of the opposite side, but at least let's be honest about it and call a spade a spade when it is actually a spade, not some invention in someone's eye. If you want to be fair of course. Many people here clearly don't know how to spell that 4-letter word, I just thought you were more intelligent than that.

btw, if she really did ask - it would disturb me as well.

The problem is that Palin has admitted she asked about banning books.[1] She claims it was just a "rhetorical question" and it looks like she never asked about banning specific books.
9-10-2008 5:30 PM
dmegivern
Recordsage, didn't the librarian have to be re-hired after the town protested her firing? Why do you think it is not true?
9-10-2008 5:35 PM
ratilfar
So we should clear the decks and say that she did consider banning books, which in itself is disturbing. I think the attraction of the above list is that it fits certain stereotypes about Republicans, especially the one about suppresion of critical or divergent thoughts and ideas.
9-10-2008 5:47 PM
RecordSage
@jklugman, I'd call her on it and asked to explain what that 'rhetorical' question meant to accomplish. If no specific books were targeted - why ask the question in the first place? Asking the question just because makes no sense.

@dmegivern - I don't know the details of why/how she was fired/hired. If it turns out that she was fired because of this - that's a major problem for Palin, in my eyes anyway.

RecordSage, you get no argument from me that her "rhetorical question" excuse does not make sense. I am guessing she was just sending out feelers and given the negative response on the part of the librarian she backed off.

I have to speak to the notion of this idea by the Wasilla Bible Church, I mean since the books that the rhetorical question seemed to be most aimed at were of this sort of nature.

You’ll be encouraged by the power of God’s love and His desire to
transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality,” according to
the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has
worshipped for about six years.
I personally know gay people who were brought up in churches like this one. They tried everything from prayer to getting married. Of course it didn't work and it not only drove them away from the church and did so much harm to their souls. I think it ...

@RS

I think you owe me an apology.

I specifically pointed out that the list was a hoax but that Palin had started to wonder down an entirely UNAMERICAN path of banning books because they don't mesh with her belief system.

Russia bans books, not the USA. You more than anyone should realize this. You owe me an apologize.

Furthermore it's time for you to admit that John McBush ditched his middle-aged crippled wife to chase the skirt tails of a 29 year old millionaire rodeo queen. Voting for McBush is not voting for the progression of women in this country.

I await your apology.
9-10-2008 11:37 PM
RecordSage
Well Bobby, no apology is coming. If you pointed out it was a hoax - certainly a right thing to do, although the title of the clip remains as if this was true.

There's nothing for me to admit about McCain - wasn't there, don't know exactly what transpired, only McCain and the Mrs. does. I certainly wouldn't take your word over his, since you weren't there either. Just because McCain states that he wishes this situation didn't go down as planned, doesn't mean anything more than what he stated. If the woman didn't support him afterwards etc. - I'd probably give a little more weight to your sentiments. If he had relations ala Bill Clinton with various women, not remaining with any of them...

You did do something wrong, you got your story all wrong. You said I endorsed a fictitious list and you were wrong. You are very frequently wrong.

Even looks like you were wrong on your take on this article. We all noticed how you backed off your original stance.

So apologize. You can't even read the comments here correctly so how can I expect you to interpret the facts of John McBush whoring around behind his wife's back because he wanted to be a 25 year old instead of a middle-aged husband and father.

Cindy McCain has been interviewed about their affair and reminesced about how she thought John was a creepy guy as he chased her around an hor dourves table at a party in Hawaii. She also ...
