There comes a point when the goal of the torture victim is not to resist, but to seek death as an end to the ordeal. When that happens, any further goals of the torturer beccome futile.

If you talk to [FBI Director] Bob Mueller, talk to [Sen.] John McCain, talk to Gen. [David] Petraeus, they believe that information can be obtained without resulting to extraordinary measures."
