These are the black ministers that conservatives love.

many are deeply mired in a single-minded pursuit [of] showy, pricey new buildings, glittering furnishings, inflated salaries, expense accounts, globe-trotting trips, and endless pitches for collections. ... fancy cars, expensive homes, clothes, and jewelry has done more to fan the popular public image of black ministers as fast buck con artists.

While some black ministers make a mighty effort to address deep seated social ills and use their influence to be spiritual mentors and social advocates, they are in the minority.

black ministers that slump into complacency and inaction, and hopelessly enmeshed in greed and personal aggrandizement have rejected Dr. King's call to take the front line in the battle for social justice. They forget or ignore the entreaty in Luke to "put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalt those of low degree." They have spiritually and socially disarmed many African-Americans.[/quote

You're welcome, debbyski. I've thought for a long-time that many black ministers and by extension, the black church, hinder rather than a help education and progress. Take the myth of black churches and civil rights for example: as we learn in the clip, many ministers took the George Washington Carver route in support of the status quo. Conservative clippers like to clip about black conservatives. It is important to know the political and social history of black conservatism.

Being accepted by whites was not only important to [George Washington] Carver; it validated his very existence.. He never felt truly comfortable with "his people." Instead he was more like a missionary to them,...

Compare that to the progress of Dr. Martin Luther King and you have some very compelling points Zizzy.
