It's even a good idea to get the young folks involved in reading about abusive / bullying behaviors and the reprecussions it can have on their victims as well as themselves. More importantly, it helps to understand how we, ourselves give power to the abuser by an unspoken "permission." It's not a conscious act by any means. And seldom thought of as "giving permission." By allowing it to continue, we give it /them permission. By setting boundaries, we prohibit engagement. Abuse comes in many forms and attacks human, land, animal, etc. However, in the form of mental and emotional abuse, I believe the worst of it is what we inflict upon ourselves by sub-consciously ... WoW! Nice Comment! I am a disabled woman married to a controlling but loving husband who at times berates me leaving me feeling so "low". Many of the items listed above pertain to me at times in my life. I am now striving to gain self confidence by volunteering and am doing exceptional but I believe he is threatened by my volunteering. I will prevail, I hope. I wish for you strength |
