Is this spying supposed to be a surprise to me? Why wasn't it? Has any reasonable person assumed that the Russians and the Chinese and many other parties are doing anything less than 24/7/365 intellectual warfare against US interests since, oh, I don't know, the dawn of international telecommunications?

To abridge our liberties as citizens in the name of easier counter-measures is, however, folly of the highest order, be it in the name of the "war on terror", or "spying". In doing so we are gutting the body of the interests being spied upon and offering protection to a dead corpse.

Spying is not the problem that the general migration of all our major companies heading to China with the combined efforts of many years of scientific and engineering advances by Americans. One example is Boeing who has established a manufacturing facility in China, and there are many others.
