Thus, rather than ceasing its policy of interventionism after 9/11, which is what the U.S. government should have done even while pursuing the perpetrators through criminal-justice means, it did the very worst thing possible — it continued and even expanded its policy of interventionism in the hope of killing those whose differences with America’s values had risen to the level of rage as a result of U.S. interventionism. Not surprisingly, that only fueled more anger and rage.

So, what should the U.S. government do now? It should do what it should have done after 9/11: Exit Afghanistan and Iraq and the entire Middle East. Bring all the troops home.
Everyone seems to know this, but America. I read a lot of hate against Muslims on CM and I find that highly troubling. It's a crock. Muslims DON'T hate us, they are NOT the enemy and if the US just left other countries alone, the "War on Terror" would be over. Don't buy into it.. Bring the troops home.

[i]Would this quell the anger and rage against the United States? Not all of it but certainly much of it. As I said above, most people simply want to live their lives in peace.

After all, look at Vietnam, where the U.S. government killed more than a million people. Once U.S. forces exited the country, the Vietnamese left the United States alone.

While there is the ever-present risk that there will still be some people who will still want vengeance, their numbers will be relatively small. While they will constitute an ever-present threat of terrorism, that’s the price that must be paid for past interventions. What’s important to note is that continued interventionism can never solve that pr...

@thisnamecantbetaken -- another pop 4sure.

Indeed there are strong pro-zionist and and pro-war forces in the USA that now encourage hatred against Muslims - they push the word and idea of:

ISLAMOFASCISM.

As you point out, like calling someone a communist in the 50's was saying they were Pure Evil, today the idea is to make all Muslims into threats of Pure Evil.

This is al lie, distortion and deliberate propaganda.

Consider 9/11

9/11 was not an attack by "Muslim terrorist," but an attack by 16 Saudi's (and three others), planned by the Saudi bin Laden, and came with a message that it was done specifically because of the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia.

All these troops were la...

Outstanding!

I wonder if there is another issue that makes this a particularly American phobia: Half of all the discretionary spending in the American budget goes to the military. And, the USA spends roughly the same on defense as all the other nations of the world combined.

That is one vast amount of money! And it goes not only to those we think of - like arms manufacturers - but to food suppliers, clothing makers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, auto makers, oil companies - and on and on.

Now how are those industries going to justify their existence? They'll pour money into lobbying organizations that emphasize military readiness - and that includes promoters of sectarian hatred, es...

I never did find a convincing account of the supposed Saudi/Iraqi/Afghan/Pakistani/Muslim/Islamic/Fascistic/Communist/Taliban undifferentiated threat to 'Amerika'. That's likely because when you say everyone is your enemy the only conclusion possible is that you have taken pains to make it so.
OTOH I do know that there has never been less unfettered ability of a 'Western' government to carry out murder, mayhem, torture and imprisonment - save Nazi Germany -than exists today via The War Measures Act ( UK,Canada,Australia) and the Patriot Act (USA) - both domestically and in targeted foreign victims.
Islamofascism - a mind-numbingly stupid concept - is an import

The Iraqis always fought against the American invasion of their country, not because they were Muslims and they hated America or Christianity. They fought, and are still fighting, because a foreign nation invaded their sovereign country without provocation.

America, and its foolish allies in Iraq are the direct cause of increased terrorism in the world today. They took a world that always had a very, very mild chance of terrorism at any given time (even on 9/11/2001), and turned it onto a place where terrorism has become much more common.

America and its allies also need to realize that most terrorists are not foreign people in other countries; it's their own citizens, working at home. It...

Given the behaviour of the US and Zionists over the last 30 years, who can really say the muslims are wrong?

The interest of Oil and Israel dominate America's foreign policies, worse in the last eight years than ever before.

Attempts to condemn Obama because it was claimed he was Muslim have really backfired!

Most Americans still believe in the First Amendment to our Constitution about free speech and freedom of religion.

So, therefore, most folks were asking: "What's wrong with being a Muslim?"

And (in a related smear), asking: "What's wrong with talking to a Palestinian." (esp. a Palestinian college professor)

The Middle East is truly a battle over land and Oil. Trying to define it as a religious war is hateful and propaganda.
