Spiritualmonkey says: Click through for the full list. I'm coming to believe there's a strong generational dynamic going on with who is supporting Polanski and who isn't. Woody Allen. Why am I not surprised. Bet if Errol Flynn were alive he'd sign it. I think I missed Jerry Lee Lewis's name on the list. My favorite quote so far (from here). The debate (really, should this be a debate?) over the recent arrest of Roman Polanksi, who fled the U.S. 31 years ago rather than face sentencing for unlawful sex with a minor, seems to be dividing Hollywood from, uh, pretty much the rest of the world -- even parts of France. Just another reminder of why I don't particularly care for celebrities. Thanks Spiritual, I'll do my best to make sure none of these perverts get anymore of my money. Terry Gilliam? Martin Scorsese? Pedro Almodovar? Tilda Swinton? Neil Jordan? ((face palms)) I don't admire them as celebrities, but as artists. I don't admire them as much any more ... can I seperate their artistry from their personal opinions? I don't know. This is very difficult. It's easier to dislike Polanski because he's the rapist and to put-down Whoopi Goldberg for her rape-rape comment because that is clear rape apology. But I'd like to know more about why they signed the petition. Are they rape apologists, (I suspect that of Woody Allen) or is it friendship, loyalty or an attitude of art-above-all forgot Woopie Goldberg "It was a long time ago" like that matters would be different if was her daughter though Woody Allen... well that one at least makes sense... So it's a crime unless the criminal is an artist. If he were a businessman forget it... obviously evil. Why do we forgive artists from all i'lls?? I don't care what great works he may or may not have done. The guy has to pay for the sick crime he has committed. Here's the thing "Monkeyman" You have no right to call supporters of Roman "Douchebags". First Thing, you have no idea what she was thinking or what he was thinking. 2nd thing, you weren't there. Third, this was a LONG time ago. And I believe pressing the case against him at this time is vindictive. I am not taking any sides for or against. It happened yes. And the victim has made it apparent that she has gone on with her life, and expressed that she wants the charges dropped. And I am a female by the way. And I support Roman. First Thing, you have no idea what she was thinking or what he was thinking.Yes, we do. The grand jury testimony is public record. The 13-year-old girl said no. After he drugged her, she said no to oral sex, no to vaginal intercourse and NO to sodomy. He does NOT dispute this. He pled guilty to statutory rape and did not go to his sentencing. DID NOT GO. Instead he went to France, which is illegal. So you are supporting going to France instead of going to the sentencing hearing for a crime to which he pled guilty. |
