Viiltaja says: Mankind is drowning to it's own stupidity! That's all I can say about this. Okay, now we know where to reduce government spending. And this is democracy????? To add insult to injury -- ask for an accounting of how it is spent. VERY Large waste of tax dollars! The statistics I've seen say that around 52% go to the Department of Defense. Remember, if you want to really reduce your taxes you've got to be anti-war. Read the constitution... Provide for the common defense... who reads the constitution anymore, not even DubYa Wasting money on propaganda and nonsense tech such as weapons in space does not provide for the common defense. We don't need to spend nearly half as much as we do on defense in order to ensure that we are safe, especially since no single country is strong enough to attack us right now. And how do you suppose that came to be the case? The Cold War would be the biggest factor in that. If we didn't try so hard to compete with a false opposition (the USSR was never attempting to take over the globe, despite what we were told), we'd have distributed our tax dollars more intelligently. And if we considered the fact that we don't even have a false opposition anymore, we could just end our Cold War budget and replace it with a realistic one. Remarkable. I'll leave debating you to those here who seem to enjoy engaging with those clipping from a parallel universe. I don't see the point of entering a black hole of denial and history revision Insults are not rebuttals to arguments; they only prove that you have no counterargument worthy of debate. I just wonder if those who do the budget for US never play Sid Meyer's Civilization. When your civilization's military expences are more than 30% you've already lost the game or so This is somewhat misleading. The Veterans benefits include the subsidized medical care, pensions, etc that almost all veterans are entitled to. For the most part these individuals would have been otherwise covered by Medicare and Social Security. Veterans' benefits only count for a small portion of the spending done by the DoD. Much more is spent on funding corporate projects related to the military (arms manufacture, etc). LOL!! I had to check these same rates from Finland's(my home country) budget (this is for 2003) Let's see... Social security, pensions = 21,6% Education = 6,6% Healthcare = 6,5% Administration and accent expenses = 6,1% Infrastructure and trade support = 5% Habitation, freetime, religion, culture, security etc. = 3,4% National defence = 1,6% ...interesting! this is bullshit and you know it. The link you provided doesn't even work. Most of our taxes go to people on *welfare *, and I am sure that large percent goes to Military, which is a good thing! Your from Finland, so you wouldn't understand...but some of us had a couple planes come and kill a bunch of people in buildings on 9/11....you may remember it? And that does help up the need for cash to the military. Where are you getting your info from Pepper, Fox News? Government stats say that over 50% of all tax dollars go to the DoD. That's a fact that you can't deny just because it feels wrong to you. Welfare costs way less than the DoD's waste does. And as for 9/11, you can't wage war on terrorism. Can't. Terrorism is an idea, not a country. You can't kill ideas unless you wipe out everyone who knows them (in this case, the entire human race) plus the recorded data of them. And guess what? War IS terrorism. It's just a word we use to euphemize our terrorism. If you want to end terrorism, you have to work towards the abolition of war, and to do that you have to start downgrading the military. Pepper, I'm sorry if you can't use your computer but the link is working fine. What Lgagnon said is true. War on terrorism is the worst phrase ever! You can basicly do anything and kill anyone you want saying it's war on terrorism. It's amazing what Bush's administration has been able to actualize during the last six years. With this phrase they've been able to create laws and do things that are killing human rights in US and all over the world. (Patriot act, Guantanamo bay, CIA's secret captives etc.) In addition they have spent billions of dollars to weapons...42% or even more...it's so sad 9/11 Did not start terrorism. Terrorism is intentionally attacking cilivilian targets and that... #this is a liberal numbers game isnt it? FCNL what a credible source #interest on military portion of the debt quite misleading (does this include marshall plan money amounting to 13 billion 1950 dollars equivalent to about 100 billion in today's dollars which the european countries with the exception of Germany dint pay back at all # america ain't finland my friend. world looks up to america (ex.WWI WWII) uaahhahahahaaahaha ...haha ..ha! Sorry I could not help it... -> Saintpal #You're free to counsel us with your own source. #You have source for this information? This clip was about military costs nowadays, not about mashall money in past anyway. #You mean you really need all your weapons to secure the world peace? Does it really support the world peace you manufacture more and more weapons? I'm not against any nation or party with my talks, I'm against weapons and those who want to make or have more of them. We are already capable to destroy ourselves more than well. Saintpal, the government's records show larger numbers. By comparison, this site's claim is a conservative number. And while the world may have looked up to us in the past (which I doubt; can you really say everyone looks up to us?), that is no longer the case. Most of the world is mad at us for our war mongering. Muffinman, you are using a biased source. The Heritage Foundation is notorious for spinning things in favor of the right-wing; after all, they are a right-wing think-tank. |
