The loudmouthed Republican faction led by shout-show hosts and Fox News types have gone out of their way to reject anyone even remotely reasonable or moderate within their own party. It's their way or the highway, do as they command, or else. It won't help them survive in the 21st Century, so I don't know why they'd act that way. But I don't know if that would even be possible.
