Unbelievable and hard to imagine in today's world. Life in the early 1900's, seen through the eyes of my Great-Aunt, Jewel. I feel honored that her daughter shared such a treasure with me.

You are welcome. I'm very thankful my mother forwarded this to me, and I hope people find it enlightening. I believe history to be critical to our survival and prosperity.

Make sure to follow the link if you haven't... this clip is just a few paragraphs of the excerpt.

This goes back to my grandparents' time and reminded me of stories I use to hear. I could easily choose to live during that time except for the sickness/no medicines/death issues. All my children and myself would have long been gone. I could identify with the hatchet incident too; only mine was with a butcher knife to make my arrows pointy. Still have the scar.

Thanks for sharing. We all need to write down our experiences. Our children would be amazed what our childhoods were like.

That's a great idea jatfla. I would love to read about other's experiences, especially from other parts of the US and the world.

Ok...as a child, I remember visiting my aunt whom I adored. She lived with her husband (of course) and my 5 cousins in very rural W.Va. (Beautiful country) There was a large farmhouse (everything looks large when you're 6), complete with cow's milk, eggs gathered for breakfast, pots under the bed and out-houses. I hated that out-house. There were 3 holes; large, medium and small. And there really was a Sears & Roebuck catalogue (sp?) Everyone perferred to "go" somewhere else rather than "go" to the outhouse, cause you never knew what was down in that hole!!!

Wow. Having an outhouse would certainly make me think hard about how bad I had to "go" in the middle of the night.
