I think they were remembering John Kerry's remarks about the un-intelligent serving in Iraq.

I just meant that nobody writes in cursivemanymore, especailly most dudes I know in the core. I guess a lady could have written it or maybe a really young recruit. I dunno...

It just seems ... well for lack of my own intelligence, odd.

I noticed that too. When you are in the military you tend to do a lot of paperwork. Heck, signing up is as bad as buying a house. I think the stack was higher for the house, but there were far more pages with multiple signatures and initials in the military paperwork. Then when you are in there is watch paperwork and logs and everything except your signature is printed.

I guess I should check to see if my parents or wife have anything I wrote while in the military because I don't recall if I printed my letters home or not. I am pretty sure I would have printed something out on a white board like that, but not everyone is the same so it likely means nothing.

When our son was in the Marine *Corps*, his letters from Bosnia were written in cursive.
