merrie says: Poor liberals. Instead of looking for change in the right direction with tort reform and other non-Socialist idea’s they dug in their heels and said “Socialism or bust!” Well, we choose bust. Now, we do want health care fixed by other means. We want tort reform, we want small groups to be able to band together and form larger qualified groups, ….there is plenty of things that can be done to lower the cost of health care. But Socialism is not the answer. You would think they would look at the republican bills and find some common ground to pass a smaller bill containing reforms on which both sides can agree. It would be a win for both sides and the American people. Instead it seems the democrats have tied socializing the health care system around their necks and are just going to go down with the ship. I seems as though the Progs are only interested in power and control over our lives and liberties. If they're stupid enough to jam that bill through, they'll be packing their bags and cleaning out their desks in 2010. Why do those who push for tort reform ignore the fact that a jury has weighed the evidence and made a decision? A person downloading music or copying a videotape faces a stiffer fine than an incompetent doctor who inflicts REAL damage on a patient. polymath22 in your statement it sounds as though you've made an assumption that the doctor/hospital/healthcare providers are always wrong, but that is not the case. Medicine is still more art than science and part of the reason that so many don't have health insurance because doctors/etc. feel they have to order extra tests to be sure they CYA. And those of us who know about legal trials know that justice is not always done by a judge and jury, when they cannot know about past trials, verdicts, and how much money someone is willing to spend. In this instance trial lawyers reap big benefits, like a minimum of a third or more, of the payout in a medical malpractice suit. The more trial law... Why do those who push for tort reform ignore the fact that a jury has weighed the evidence and made a decision? And what if that decision was that the person in question was innocent? That person could still be out tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars for doing absolutely nothing wrong. Our judicial system as is can be used as a weapon to punish those who have done nothing wrong. It is also out of control when record companies are rewarded thousands of dollars for each illegally downloaded song that sells for 99 cents on most online music outlets. you can hear it in the comments that are something along the lines of "you can steal legally from somebody else, why don't you support that?" |
