i wish my brain booted up in the morning as fast as my laptop...my first few minutes of the day i'm really slow!!

Eric, I have exactly the same problems. So maybe we need:

1. Perform a full "defrag"
2. Shut down unnecessary services and tasks
3. Clean our brains by deleting the redundant remainders of "uninstalled" problems.

Whew! That's a good one Invictus. Unfortunately, I have to make this a threesome. I'm an extremely slow mover in the a.m. Must have 2 cups of coffee before brain is functioning on full steam. Or without coffee, need about an hour to feel like I'm awake. LOL

Most of the time I have to reinstall my OS

This analogy doesn't make sense... computers keep getting better and better and booting up faster... our brains on the other hand, as we get older... well, the opposite occurs... unfortunately. Perhaps the problem has to do with lack of upgrades, yet constant use (at least for some of us )

Same for me bookchick - but I drink 3 cups of tea, instead of coffee. Maybe coffee and tea serve for our brains as a kind of "accelerator software"... er, "drinkware".

RecordSage, you're sooo right! Year by year, I feel the disadvantages of being an older man - the hardest impacts of getting old appear to be on my memory. Some mornings my brain even gives a "boot error" and I put my head back on pillow, keep on sleeping in order to prevent a "blue screen"

@invictus That's why again Amiga shone - when there was an error - it was a Guru Meditation - much more palatable... in human terms you could convert it to 'I may have a problem this morning, but I'm just pondering, giving more thought to something, much more elaborate than I care to give actual info about' - certainly sounds like a more positive status

Actually invictus, I take back my comment... it's not a fair comparison. We're talking about new computers, but comparing the same people before and now... A more honest analogy would be to take a computer, like TRS-80 and see where it is today. And then take the younger generations and look at how much younger they mature etc. being able to hack at 10 and get arrested for spreading viruses shortly after, not to mention getting pregnant at 13 (oops, I guess I mentioned it ). So, if you compare older generation of computers to older generation of people - that would be more appropriate... same with new generation of boxes and the kids.

Good points RecordSage, that made me feel better.

The brain boots like a computer? How-about our computers boot like our brains, we were here first you know.

It seems like my brain boots up like Windows 95 with 64 mg of memory and 5 gig of hard drive space.

My 7 year old's in trouble already then...

If we consider the extra resource required to launch, say, the GNOME desktop as opposed to a terminal session we've probably got an alternative approach available to us to make our mornings easier to deal with.

And this is why everyone should regularly do Nitrous oxide in the morning.

Seeing as brains came first, shouldn't it be "Your computer boots up like a brain"?

HA! I love the 'arse about face'ness of this! To me, it's rather more 'a computer boots up like your brain'.

your brain is much much faster than any computer today. say 1:1000000. although the response time of the brain is much longer, but the massive parallelism in the brain make it faster by a very large margin.
