I'm not trying to support or discourage this but I know from my personnel experience that my wife and past girl friends go to the doctor 2-4 times (mostly female specific issues) a year where as I (a male) usually only go to the doctor about once every three years. Perhaps I'm the only one who experiences this but I suspect not. So perhaps this actually has some reasoning behind it. I would be interested to see some data on this.

I think I read somewhere, that women can suffer from 30,000 more diseases, ailments, complaints, pregnancy and menstrual issues, etc, than men, just because they have female anatomies.

Women have to go more because they have more parts where something can and usually does require medical attention. Men on the other hand have the macho thing going for them where they only go when something requires attention. Whether it's fear or stupidity I don't know.

oh.. forgot to mention, Men pay more for car insurance, why? Because as a general rule we drive more aggressively (its a testosterone thing) and therefore get into more accidents and make more claims against our car insurance (although I myself have never made a claim). So I guess it kind of makes logical sense. Those who use the system more pay more to use the system.

We have more indoor plumbing that's for sure. I would argue that women take better care of their health by seeing the doctor more for preventative care and tend to have less serious issues than men because of that.

I agree with burndata.

I hate that we need to have insurance!

I totally believe that the cost of health care is ridiculas! I used to be a nurse, & I know that, neither the patients or we saw any of that money. I went into it for more than "the money", but we still have to eat & pay bills!

"Some insurance executives expressed surprise at the size and prevalence of the disparities"? Give me a break! They are only surprised that it was discovered.

They are the people who put these disparities in place and they are the ones that need to change it.
