I want to check out Gizmo:

It's interoperability with Yahoo/AIM etc. has people calling it a Skype-killer.

I'm going to download and check it out. I have seen it before. Time for another look.

got your call, but all i heard was crazy sounds. might need to get a real mic/headset.

didn't have a headset at the office. I'll try later. Now I just need to get some others on board.

totally -- I meant I might need to get a headset, though I thought it would work with my built-in mic and speakers (Powerbook)
